An 8-year-old boy fell into a pool on Anthem of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship while it was leaving New York Harbor. He was in the water for what may have been as long as 10 minutes before crew members found him. After CPR was administered, the boy's pulse was established and he was then airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was listed as being in critical condition. This tragic event serves as yet another example of how, despite incident after incident of child drownings and near drownings, the cruise lines continue to refuse to provide life guards or other protections that could prevent these horrible incidents.
